El p\u00e1rrafo forma parte del texto que el periodista argentino desaparecido Rodolfo Walsh escribi\u00f3 en 1955 sobre el secuestro del cad\u00e1ver de Evita, una de las mujeres m\u00e1s trascendentes de la historia Argentina. De toda esa potencia, la fot\u00f3grafa argentina Mar\u00eda Eugenia Cerutti extrajo tres elementos: una pregunta abierta sobre las mujeres, un esp\u00edritu de \u00e9poca y un t\u00edtulo.<\/p>\n

\u2018Con toda la muerte al aire\u2019 es una investigaci\u00f3n visual sobre la muerte de Alcira Methyger, asesinada por su pareja Jorge Burgos. The paragraph is part of the text that the disappeared Argentine journalist Rodolfo Walsh wrote in 1955 about the kidnapping of Evita’s corpse, one of the most important women in Argentine history. From all this potency, the Argentine photographer Maria Eugenia Cerutti extracted three elements: an open question about women, a spirit of the time and a title.<\/p>\n

Con toda la muerte al aire<\/em> is a visual investigation into the death of Alcira Methyger, murdered by her partner Jorge Burgos. It was the same year that Walsh wrote, the country suffered a coup d’\u00e9tat and the bombing of the civilian population occurred in Plaza de Mayo, a few meters from the government house: 1955.<\/p>\n

Por aquel entonces al caso se lo conoci\u00f3, en cambio, como \u201cel caso Burgos\u201d o como \u201cel descuartizador de Barracas\u201d. La primera noticia al respecto fue cuando un sacerdote encontr\u00f3 un torso envuelto en papel madera en Hurlingham, Provincia de Buenos Aires. Despu\u00e9s, en una localidad cercana, aparecieron dos piernas dentro del mismo tipo de papel. Although the murdered of Alcira was one of the most resounding events in Argentine criminal history, it took more than half a century before we could put into words what had happened. A femicide. What happened to Alcira was a femicide.<\/p>\n

At that time, the case was known, instead, as \u201cthe Burgos case\u201d or \u201cthe Barracas ripper\u201d. The first news about it was when a priest found a wrapped torso in paper wood in Hurlingham, Province of Buenos Aires. Later, in a nearby location, two legs appeared inside the same type of paper. It took a while because there was not much technology, but finally they recognized Alcira and they learned that she worked as a housekeeper in the porte\u00f1o neighborhood of Barracas. Later they identified the femicide: Jorge Eduardo Burgos, a 30-year-old man, who worked for her family\u2019s paper company.<\/p>\n

She approached the case through four principal files: the General Archive of the Nation, the case file (which is exhibited in the Federal Police Museum), the Clar\u00edn Archive and the Biblioteca Nacional’s Newspaper Archive. \u201cThe intention always was this thin border between fiction and reality\u201d, she says.<\/p>\n

La idea no era contar \u201cun caso alejado\u201d sino poner sobre la mesa las repercusiones en lo contempor\u00e1neo. When she approached the book, the creative process was as a team: Cerutti, Ricardo Baez and Mart\u00edn Bollati. The project is made up of two books: one is the reissue of the writing that Jorge Burgos himself wrote from prison. In it, says Cerutti, the femicide recounts the romance and ends up admitting the crime: “Although it is the murderer’s voice, it is a speech that we were interested in publishing because it is still in the minds of many: femicides continue to occur.” The other book, which dialogues in tension, is a visual chronicle that gathers, reinterprets archive material, intervening photographs and texts from newspapers and magazines of the time.
