We are Warmi Photo<\/strong><\/a>, the first collective of female photographers in Bolivia. Now we are in different parts of the country, some of us have migrated to other countries. The collective was born from the need to generate more equitable spaces, from new, more diverse narratives, where we can show and make visible our work as women photographers and generate networks in Latin America.<\/p>\n

Beyond carrying out individual and collective photographic works, we generate training spaces, such as the first photographic and narrative residency on gender, identity, and territory. It was in 2019, face-to-face and only for women: 22 photographers from 5 Latin American countries who arrived in Bolivia. This year, due to the pandemic, we made it virtual, that’s why photographers who reside in London, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Brazil joined.<\/p>\n

This year, the particularity of the residences was that we wanted to pay homage to the social outbursts that occurred in Latin America. That is why it was called ‘Existimos estallidos’<\/a>. We made it a little more inclusive, from the perspective of historically segregated communities, such as the LGBT.<\/p>\n

During a week, they had workshops, seminars, talks and also produced their work. At the end of the first residence, we held a traveling exhibition, in cafes, in squares, in shops. But this year, as we were with the theme of the outbursts, we thought about taking over public spaces. From protest, performance, urban interventions. In the end, we called all the girls to action.<\/p>\n

Many of the women carried out their urban interventions with their work and many spoke from personal issues, but also very global ones, such as climate change, drought, the role of women in political spaces. Some also spoke of resilience, the search for hope, what is expected of us. Others also spoke on more current issues.<\/p>\n

Part of the proposal of the residences is also to generate ties, contact networks. One of the issues that Latin American photographs intersect with is that there are no spaces to publish their work. The spaces are already full, generally with an agenda that is not so diverse or does not allow new narratives. We have looked for spaces to be able to give to the fellows. Many are afraid to show their work, but it is also about breaking that glass ceiling. Josefina Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a> – Almagro, Buenos Aires, Argentina<\/span><\/p>\n

She was born in 1992 in Buenos Aires. She studied photography at the Argentine School of Photography and the Association of Graphic Reporters of the Argentine Republic. She participated in the Valpara\u00edso Photography Festival in 2015 and several group exhibitions in Buenos Aires. Although her work experience was always linked to press photography, her production was mutating towards a much more introspective construction. Photography is her tool to try to understand herself.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe confinement as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic gave value to green spaces within large cities. In addition to being a relatively safe meeting place, they have a positive impact on mental health. People who live in areas with green spaces are less likely to have anxiety or depression, deeply aggravated disorders resulting from isolation.<\/p>\n

In the commune where I live, there is an average of 20 cm2 of green space per person, including flowerpots, flower beds and sidewalks in this number. It is one of the lowest figures in Latin America. This data is not innocent: in recent years the government of the city of Buenos Aires detached itself from 24 properties and public buildings. None were destined for a green space and the vast majority went to large real estate developments.<\/p>\n

She studied Communication and Journalism career. She has taken various courses in photojournalism, documentary, and cinematography; Throughout her career, she focused on photojournalism where she began in independent media, at the same time, she got a taste for audiovisuals to tell and make stories. She has the opportunity to collaborate with an independent all-female production company. And she currently collaborates for the newspaper El Pa\u00eds in Mexico as a photojournalist.<\/em>

\u201cThis series of photographs not only wants to reinterpret feelings but also to denote that both women and bodies of water are drawn physically and emotionally by others. Its use benefits someone, however, the river that is born and begins in this circumstance is up, in the mountains, runs through green landscapes to end in a channel of black water, where the human environment has left it dry. In this way, our feelings are often similar, we can be up emotionally. and impetuously we sink, even so, we try to float and flow, not stagnate.<\/p>\n

Those who have been portrayed in these images are women who resist in their surroundings. In their daily lives, they maintain a force within a violent country. The force of the river reflected in the Magdalena Contreras has also been portrayed; one of the last channels that live in Mexico City.”<\/p>\n

Mercedes Cotol\u00ed – Misiones, Argentina<\/span><\/p>\n

She was trained as an Image and Sound Designer (University of Buenos Aires). She attended clinics with Adriana Lestido, Valeria Bellusci, Juanita Escobar, and Shen Wei. She teaches photography at School 394, in Misiones and in 2019 she obtained the Training Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (FNA). In 2020, the Barrerito series earned a mention in the FNA’s National Visual Arts Contest and was a finalist in the Sony World Photography Awards and the IWPA. In 2021 it was published in Black and White Photography Magazine.<\/em><\/p>\n

These days we talk about the present, water, and dreams. Dreams of water. They shared their dreams with me and I found that there was something in common: they were all river dreams. I portrayed them and their watery eyes. Bananas burned by the recent frost, hoses running through wells, and crops with scarce water during the increasingly frequent drought. The puddles on the ground were left by the storm. The stream, getting lower and lower.<\/p>\n

Somos Warmi Photo<\/a>, la primera colectiva de fot\u00f3grafas mujeres en Bolivia. Ahora estamos en diferentes lugares del pa\u00eds. Incluso, hay algunas que han migrado a otros pa\u00edses. El colectivo nace a partir de la necesidad de generar espacios m\u00e1s equitativos, desde nuevas narrativas, m\u00e1s diversas, en donde podamos mostrar y visibilizar nuestro trabajo como mujeres fot\u00f3grafas y generar redes de contactos en Latinoam\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n

M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de realizar trabajos fotogr\u00e1ficos individuales y colectivos, generamos espacios de formaci\u00f3n, como la primera residencia fotogr\u00e1fica y narrativa de g\u00e9nero, identidad y territorio. Fue en 2019, presencial y solo de mujeres: 22 fot\u00f3grafas de 5 pa\u00edses de Latinoam\u00e9rica que llegaron a Bolivia. Este a\u00f1o, debido a la pandemia, lo hicimos virtual, por lo que se sumaron fot\u00f3grafas que residen en Londres, en Espa\u00f1a, en Canad\u00e1, en M\u00e9xico, Per\u00fa, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Brasil.<\/p>\nEste a\u00f1o, lo particular de las residencias fue que quisimos tomar a modo de homenaje los estallidos sociales que hubo en Latinoam\u00e9rica. Por eso se llam\u00f3 'Existimos estallidos'. Hubo 34 residentes de diferentes pa\u00edses, tuvieron cinco tutoras y hubo una revisi\u00f3n de portafolios. En una semana de trabajo tuvieron talleres, seminarios, charlas y tambi\u00e9n hicieron la producci\u00f3n de sus trabajos. Al finalizar en la primera residencia realizamos una exposici\u00f3n itinerante, en caf\u00e9s, en plazas, en tiendas. Pero este a\u00f1o como est\u00e1bamos con la tem\u00e1tica de los estallidos, pensamos en la toma de los espacios p\u00fablicos. Desde la protesta, performance, intervenciones urbanas. Al finalizar, a todas las chicas las llam\u00e1bamos a la acci\u00f3n.<\/p>\nMuchas de las mujeres realizaron sus intervenciones urbanas con sus trabajos y muchas hablaban desde tem\u00e1ticas personales, pero tambi\u00e9n bien globales, como el cambio clim\u00e1tico, la sequ\u00eda, el rol de la mujer en espacios pol\u00edticos. Tambi\u00e9n algunas hablaban de la resiliencia, la b\u00fasqueda de la esperanza, qu\u00e9 se espera de nosotras. Otras tambi\u00e9n hablaban sobre temas m\u00e1s coyunturales. <\/span>\n\nParte de la propuesta de las residencias, es tambi\u00e9n generar lazos, redes de contacto. Uno de los temas con las que se cruzan las fotograf\u00edas latinoamericanas es que no hay espacios para publicar sus trabajos. Los espacios ya est\u00e1n copados, generalmente con una agenda que no es tan diversa o no permite nuevas narrativas. Hemos buscado espacios para poder dar a las compa\u00f1eras. Muchas tienen miedo de mostrar su trabajo, pero tambi\u00e9n se trata de romper ese techo de cristal. Josefina Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a> - Almagro, Buenos Aires, Argentina<\/span><\/p>\n

Naci\u00f3 en 1992 en Buenos Aires. Estudi\u00f3 fotograf\u00eda en la Escuela Argentina de Fotograf\u00eda y en La Asociaci\u00f3n de Reporteros Gr\u00e1ficos de la Rep\u00fablica Argentina. Particip\u00f3 del Festival de Fotograf\u00eda de Valpara\u00edso en el a\u00f1o 2015 y de varias exposiciones colectivas en Buenos Aires. Si bien su experiencia laboral siempre estuvo ligada a la fotograf\u00eda de prensa, su producci\u00f3n personal fue mutando hacia una construcci\u00f3n mucho m\u00e1s introspectiva. La fotograf\u00eda es su herramienta para intentar entenderse.<\/em><\/p>\n\u201cEl encierro producto de la pandemia COVID-19 puso en valor los espacios verdes dentro de las grandes ciudades. Donde su uso es para un beneficio, sin embargo, el r\u00edo que en esta circunstancia nace e inicia es arriba, en las monta\u00f1as, recorre paisajes verdes para terminar en un canal de agua negras, donde el entorno humano lo ha dejado seco. De esta forma, los sentires de nosotras muchas veces son similares, podemos estar arriba emocionalmente e impetuosamente nos hundimos, a\u00fan as\u00ed tratamos de flotar y fluir, no estancarnos.<\/p>\n

Ense\u00f1a fotograf\u00eda en la Escuela 394, en Misiones y en 2019 obtuvo la Beca Formaci\u00f3n del Fondo Nacional de las Artes (FNA). En 2020, la serie Barrerito obtuvo una menci\u00f3n en el Concurso Nacional de Artes Visuales del FNA y fue finalista en Sony World Photography Awards y el IWPA. Los bananos quemados por la helada reciente, las mangueras que atraviesan pozos y cultivos con agua que escasea durante la sequ\u00eda, cada vez m\u00e1s frecuente. Los charcos en la tierra que deja la tormenta. El arroyo, cada vez m\u00e1s bajo.
