But few people discuss &#8216;good dying&#8217;. Both notions stem from a universal aspiration: having a dignified life also means having a dignified death. Can psychoactive substances help us achieve this goal? This is what some specialists believe, who have found that certain plants can provide psychospiritual well-being and helps patients in the final stages of life.\n\nIn the fourth episode of the second season of &#8216;Jardines y Laberintos&#8217;, we talked about these issues with Jaime Andr\u00e9s Vinasco, a nurse, master in Cultures and Drugs, and doctor in Social Sciences. In 2019, he and his partner founded the Conciencia Viba Foundation, which serves around 500 people yearly. However, those care approaches are in some way partial and narrow-minded because we have focused on the biological body of the human being and neglected the psychospiritual aspect, which is perhaps the most important when there is little or nothing to do with the physical body. The Conciencia VIBA Foundation supports the dying population by addressing psychological anxieties.&#8221;\n\nThis support mainly relies on &#8216;palliadelics&#8217;: that is, psychoactive substances that allow for &#8220;mitigating the suffering and anxieties that are characteristic of the end of life.&#8221; For Vinasco, the ambiguous legal status of these substances is undoubtedly a problem. However, he believes it is necessary to promote people&#8217;s freedom to choose the treatments or interventions they want throughout their life, illness, or even the dying process.\n\n&#8220;Currently, society makes a big mistake thinking that we are experimenting by legalizing drugs or regulating them,&#8221; he says. &#8220;We must understand that the mistake was prohibiting them. style=\"font-weight: 400\">Desde hace un tiempo se ha puesto en discusi\u00f3n la idea del \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/educacion.gob.ec\/que-es-el-buen-vivir\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">buen vivir<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019, en relaci\u00f3n a ciertas pr\u00e1cticas originarias de las comunidades andinas. Pero poco se habla del \u2018buen morir\u2019. Ambas nociones parten de una aspiraci\u00f3n universal: tener una vida digna supone tener, tambi\u00e9n, una muerte digna. \u00bfPueden las sustancias psicoactivas ayudarnos a conseguir este fin? Es lo que creen algunos especialistas que han encontrado en ciertas plantas la posibilidad de proveer un bienestar psicoespiritual que ayude a los pacientes en los tr\u00e1nsitos finales de la vida.&nbsp;<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">En el cuarto episodio de la segunda temporada de \u2018Jardines y Laberintos\u2019, conversamos de estos temas con Jaime Andr\u00e9s Vinasco, enfermero, mag\u00edster en Culturas y Drogas y doctor en Ciencias Sociales. En 2019, \u00e9l cre\u00f3 junto a su pareja la Fundaci\u00f3n Conciencia Viba, por la que pasan alrededor de unas 500 personas cada a\u00f1o. La filosof\u00eda de este centro de atenci\u00f3n se basa, precisamente, en la idea del \u2018buen morir\u2019.&nbsp;<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Para Vinasco, \u201chablar del buen morir, es entre otras cosas, recuperar la naturalidad del proceso de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">morimiento<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Es volver a poner sobre distintos escenarios sociales, familiares y de todo \u00e1mbito humano, el tema de la muerte como un hecho natural\u201d. El equipo de profesionales que lidera se encarga de acompa\u00f1ar a la persona que est\u00e1 en los \u00faltimos momentos de su vida y a sus familiares en un proceso que busca, principalmente, el bienestar psicoespiritual.&nbsp;<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Como explica nuestro invitado, \u201cen los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os han habido importantes avances en los cuidados de las personas al final de la vida. Sin embargo, esos enfoques de atenci\u00f3n son en cierta manera parciales y muy miopes, porque se han centrado en el cuerpo biol\u00f3gico del ser humano y hemos descuidado la parte psicoespiritual, que es tal vez la m\u00e1s importante cuando por el cuerpo f\u00edsico hay poco o nada que hacer. Es en las angustias de car\u00e1cter psicol\u00f3gico que la Fundaci\u00f3n Conciencia VIBA apoya a la poblaci\u00f3n moribunda\u201d.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Este apoyo se basa, entre otras cosas, en el uso de \u2018paliad\u00e9licos\u2019: es decir, sustancias psicod\u00e9licas que permiten \u201cla mitigaci\u00f3n del sufrimiento y las angustias propias del final de la vida\u201d. Para Vinasco, el estatuto legal ambiguo de estas sustancias es, desde luego, un problema. Sin embargo, considera que es necesario promover la libertad de cada quien para elegir los tratamientos o intervenciones que desea a lo largo de la vida, en la enfermedad o incluso en el proceso de muerte.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cEn la actualidad hay un gran error social y es pensar que estamos entrando en un experimento que es legalizar las drogas o regularlas\u201d, dice. \u201cLo primero que tenemos que entender es que el error fue prohibirlas. Estas sustancias han estado presentes durante milenios en las sociedades y lo que hicimos fue un experimento hace cien a\u00f1os de empezar a prohibirlas. Ya sabemos los resultados que esto nos ha dejado\u201d.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Finalmente, subraya la importancia de cerrar brechas en t\u00e9rminos de investigaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica en torno a estas sustancias en la regi\u00f3n: \u201ces una pena que siendo M\u00e9xico, Colombia y casi todos los pa\u00edses andinos, los m\u00e1s ricos del mundo en estas sustancias, seamos los \u00faltimos en llegar a la fiesta.
