we will travel to the country known for having the largest Afro-descendant population outside of Africa: Brazil. The majority of its population identifies as Black and Brown, yet this majority is not yet reflected in places of power and representation. One of the challenges facing Brazilian society is combating structural racism, and there are already initiatives from the State itself to achieve this. In this episode, we will discuss these and other situations with our guest, Paula Balduino de Melo. @paulabaldu studied social sciences at the University of Bras\u00edlia, where she also completed her master&#8217;s and doctoral degrees in social anthropology. She researched at the National University of Colombia for her postgraduate studies. This led to her doctoral thesis and the book &#8216;Afro-Pacific Midwives: Weaving Resistance.&#8217;<br \/>Paula has experience in the field of anthropology of ethnic-racial relations, with an emphasis on Afro-Latin populations and a gender focus. She has also worked on rural sociology topics. She serves as the Director of Policies for Quilombolas and Gypsies at the Ministry of Racial Equality. Paula asserts, &#8220;It is possible to combat structural racism. For this, it is very important to have Black people in the State, as this already signifies a transformation of the State.&#8221; With the current government, they achieved the requirement that 30% of public employees be Black. 'Imaginar el fuego: Conversaciones sobre lo africamericano' viajaremos al pa\u00eds del que se dice que tiene la mayor poblaci\u00f3n afrodescendiente fuera de \u00c1frica: Brasil. La mayor\u00eda de su poblaci\u00f3n se reconoce negra y parda, esa mayor\u00eda no se reflejada aun en los lugares de poder y representaci\u00f3n. Uno de los retos a los que se enfrenta la sociedad brasile\u00f1a es a luchar contra el racismo estructural y ya hay iniciativas desde el estado mismo para lograrlo. Con Paula Balduino de Melo, nuestra invitada a este episodio, hablaremos sobre estas y otras situaciones. @paulabaldu estudi\u00f3 ciencias sociales en la Universidad de Bras\u00edlia, en donde adem\u00e1s se gradu\u00f3 de la maestr\u00eda y doctorado en antropolog\u00eda social. En este \u00faltimo, obtuvo una beca para hacer una estancia en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia en la que hizo su tesis doctoral de la que se deriva el libro 'Matronas afropac\u00edficas tramas de la resistencia' . <\/span>\n\nPaula tiene experiencia en el \u00e1rea de antropolog\u00eda de las relaciones \u00e9tnico-raciales, con \u00e9nfasis en las poblaciones afrolatinas y en el enfoque de g\u00e9nero; adem\u00e1s ha trabajado tambi\u00e9n temas de sociolog\u00eda rural. Actualmente, trabaja como Directora de Pol\u00edticas para Quilombolas y Gitanos, del Ministerio de la Igualdad Racial. \"Es posible luchar contra el racismo estructural.\" asegura Paula, \"para eso es muy importante tener gente negra en el Estado, porque eso ya significa una transformaci\u00f3n del Estado.\" Con el actual gobierno se logr\u00f3 la exigencia de que el 30% de los empleados p\u00fablicos sean negros.
